Piazza Matteotti- Lodi

The project area, together with the Park and the Castle acting as the "heart" of the city, is responsible for connecting the historic urban mesh with the modern one, so horizontal connections and points of access points become essential for the elimination of this caesura. The concept, aims to "merge" the paths of the wider and more regular modern urban plot to the west with the more irregular and dense historic one to the east, fluidly connecting paths and access points in continuity with the existing "green" of the Park and that of the Castle Moat. The horizontal and vertical connections, becoming a single system, equally assume a role in enhancing all green and open areas, and in emphasizing the volumes of the Castle and the Parking Lot; the former thanks to the liberation and cleaning of all the adjacent green areas, accentuates and highlights its historical-monumental and cultural value; the latter, through a new treatment of the facades and especially through the creation of new sports, cultural and social functions, triggers a process of reactivation of the Square above as a social meeting point. The project described in this report and illustrated in the graphic drawings, wishes to return to the community a social urban space where citizens can cultivate activities of relationship, exchange, aggregation, recreation and culture, a place with a new spatial and material configuration that nevertheless remains linked to the historical context of the city and its pre-existences. An intervention that enhances historical and natural beauty and generates the centrality that the city of Lodi needs.
